Danny Miller has been named Best Actor at the British Soap Awards 2011, held in Manchester last night. The star beat off competition from Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow, Coronation Street), Shane Richie (Alfie Moon, EastEnders) and Emmett J. Scanlan (Brendan Brady, Hollyoaks).
His win was just one of two awards for Emmerdale, with the late Gavin Blyth being awarded the Special Recognition prize. Danny gave a tearful tribute to Gavin before presenting the award to his widow, Suzy Blyth. After a standing ovation from the audience in honour of the late producer, Mrs Blyth said: “I told Gavin we’d get some bloody awards this year – he just wouldn’t wait, as usual. I am so incredibly proud of my husband. He’s left an amazing legacy.”
Pauline Quirke missed out to Emmett J. Scanlan in the Best Newcomer category, with Emmett also being crowned Villain of the Year. Danny was beaten to the Best Dramatic Performance award by Coronation Street’s Jane Danson (Leanne Barlow).
Coronation Street may have been the big winners of the night with 9 gongs, but it was EastEnders who took away the prestigious Best Soap award for the fourth year in a row, along with a further three prizes. Doctors failed to win a single title.

That’s brilliant for Danny *and Gavin). I’m pleased for Corrie too, rather them be the big winners than Eastenders. Their storylines this year have been appalling. I can’t think why Jane Danson got the Dramatic Performance Award though and for the fourth year running Eastenders is Best Soap, seriously. At least they only got four. Poor Doctors, they never seem to win but they have such a rubbish time slot.

Brilliant Danny!! So much deserved. Pauline looks really amazing. She’s lost so much weight from when she first appeared on Emmerdale. Danny Miller is the next James McAvoy. Emmerdale is just a launching pad for this wonderfully talented actor! BRAVO DANNY! BRAVO!!

Hooray for Danny!
And can I also just say: about bloody time!!
I’m so glad he’s been recognised at last for his fantastic performances as troubled Aaron.
Well done Danny!

This is fantastic news, well done Danny!
I never thought Emmerdale would push in front of the two big soaps, so it is especially good that Danny has beaten the competition; an extra compliment to his amazing talent.

Congratulations to Danny.
A well deserved award for a brilliant young actor. To make the shortlist three times and be only twenty is some achievement.
Long may his success continue

What it´s bullshit is girl from Eastenders winning over Jane Cox (Lisa in Emmerdale). Doesn´t make sense!

Once again many congratulations to our Danny for winning Best Actor at the British Soap Awards!
To beat actors from Corrie and Eastenders is not an easy thing and that just makes me and I’m sure everyone else, extra proud of him.
Also, our Straight Lad From Manchester was looking pretty good on the red carpet 😉 Shame Marc was nowhere to be seen though.
